Ray and Aaron will lead up in a discussion our ecosystem and wetlands ecosystems and how humans can protect these.
Scouts will also learn about setting up your own terrarium, insect, amphibian, or reptile zoo.
Scoutwork will be assigned

Sept 24th 9:30am – DEN FIELD TRIP
Local Nature Center visit to Shorebird Park/Strawbale Nature Center with a visit to the Adventure Playground – just for the fun of it!
(Let Dorinda know if you can not make that day – Make up for this achievement can be either Lake Merritt Nature Center or Alameda Crab Cove or the scout could make a video!)

October 24th –  DEN MEETING

Theme “Camper”

We have a Den Camp-Out in November. This den meeting will focus on getting everyone prepared for the outdoors.

Scouts will learn what makes for a good tent location and what do you do in extreme weather events. Scouts will also learn how to tie a bowline and get prepared to teach another scout at an upcoming event how to do this! A reminder to practice the Outdoor Code and the Leave No Trace Principles as scouts will be quizzed at the meeting!

Tonight the boys will learn about gaming signals, sportsmanship, the difference between individual and team sports. Winter might be setting in by we are going to do some sports tonight! Probably indoors – so expect a fun and active night!

Theme: Into the Woods

Leaders: Parents of Ryan & Ezra

Trees Please! The scouts will be learning how to identify trees including 6 local trees and 6 local plants. They will learn about growth rings and tree bark too! The scouts will plan for a planting of a tree. To complete this achievement the boys will need to go on a fieldtrip.

want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the holidays and get out into nature. We will be doing a rock hike + geocache hike. Location TBD.

Scouts will learn about Geology and local Geological features and will learn about the mineral make-up of rocks. Potentially we will have a guest geologist for this meeting!

In this Session #1 scouts will learn about “fair test”, carry out an experiment. If that is not enough the scouts will create two circuits!
